NYSEG is requesting your help…
As heating season and Veterans Day approach, we want to reach as many disabled veterans and surviving spouses of service members as possible. Our goal is to make them aware of benefits they may not be using to help with winter energy costs.
In New York State, customers may qualify for the Energy Assistance Program by participating in an eligible state program. This includes customers who receive Veterans Disability or Survivors Pension benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs reports that 62,176 veterans receive benefits within the 42 counties served in whole or in part by NYSEG. Participation in one of these veterans benefit programs may qualify customers for EAP assistance without an income eligibility requirement. However, NYSEG currently shows fewer than 500 customers enrolled through this eligibility pathway, representing less than 1% of disabled veterans receiving benefits in the service area.
